Before I left for New York I gave a talk about blogging and the benefits of blogging to at the NAWBO’s Mentoring Group. Over the past couple of months while emerged in blogging, I learned more about social media at Siegel+Gale. Social media is more than MySpace or YouTube it is all about connecting, participation and discussion.

I am very pleased to present this white paper on social media which will shed some light on how these tools will improve your business relationships and connections.

Touching Base

I've been back in New York for nearly 2 months and time really flies. To share some of the important changes in business. Some businesses are really putting in place more customer centric practices especially by using Web 2.0 tools, like blogs. This really feeds in to the book we've been reading, "Fierce Conversations". If you want to have a fierce conversation with your customers be sure to have a blog on your website. Let's the conversations be honest and open.

My new job, Siegel+Gale, as senior strategist, interactive media, is wonderful. I especially love our matra, "Simple is Smart" and my coworkers are nice and very smart!

Just thought I would share a couple of thoughts. Oh here's a view from my office window on Madison and 50th Street.

My Best Business Advice

I think that challenging our beliefs brings the opportunity to advance our business and ourselves. I guess these are "fierce conversations" with ourselves. What is my belief about sales? What is my belief about success and how much I can have? What is my belief about how business should be conducted? Are these beliefs working to advance my business or are they holding me back? If they are not serving me well, what would I like to believe instead? I think our beliefs/thoughts are the things that hold us back the most.

Since we all have different backgrounds, I thought it would be wise to compile our brilliant thoughts together. My best business advice is..... Please share yours.

Creativity and criticism are your best friends when it come to growth. When someone criticizes your work, shake off the feeling of worthlessness and analyze their review to see if they have a point. Chances are others may be feeling the same but haven't said anything. Further, it helps to take your ego out of the business and focus on what is best for the business instead.

Nancy Van Pelt, chair of Nawbo Mentoring, kickup of the festivities with a creative exercise. Mentoring is so important to building a successful business. ASK THE ORACLE: How this blog got started.

Recently a group of women met at the National Association of Business Owners (NAWBO) Phoenix Chapter and were asked: "If you could ask the Oracle one business question to have answered, what would it be?" As women articulated their questions, it was clear by the nods of agreement that others shared the same interests, concerns, experiences.

I facilitated and recorded as the group generated a list of provocative questions, both general and specific. Of course the meaty questions asked of the Oracle could not be answered easily or quickly. When the meeting ended, many participants asked for an e-copy of the questions.

It occurred to me that having a list of questions wasn't enough . . . what about the answers?? What if women had a way to continue the conversation-- perhaps tackling one topic at a time-- and learn from each other?

The solution was to set up a communication vehicle-- a blog! I sought out the expertise of a talented colleague and veteran blogger, Tery Spataro. Tery provided the technical know-how that launched this blog. I will act as "gatekeeper" of the process but its success will depend on the contributors, the women who are willing to share their wisdom with others. These are the real Oracles-- those who make a difference by "Passing It On."
